Stifling Party

If this is politics, count me out.  Out of service, out of the party, I will not hang about.

Did you notice what kind of animal crushes that little horn bill.  Bill Krystal on notice.

Attending a county Republican Party fundraising dinner has to be one of the most stifling experiences there is to have in politics.  You’re surrounded by people that you’ve never met who paid a ton of money to support candidates they don’t know.  The ostensive draw for the night is to hear some high ranking party politician speak about how much more principled than thou she is because she refuses to actually push the values and platform she is running on.

Republican memes:Memes that don’t suck:

Definitely vote for “our” candidate for judge, not the guy we endorsed last time because that guy supports sanctuary for illegal aliens.  Pay no attention to the fact that the party’s largest donors all support sanctuary policies.  Do you think that maybe the new candidate will do the same thing, but perhaps he’ll be smart enough to not announce to the world what he’s doing.

Tell the people what they want to hear but give the donors what they paid for.  This measly $300 per plate dinner may be a big deal for the county party, but means nothing in the face of Daniel Gilbert making a passing reference to labor costs.  Disclaimer: as a guest of a party candidate, I did not pay for my seat.

The one redeeming aspect of the night was the featured guest – high energy legend, Corey Lewandowski.  I suppose the open bar would be appealing for those that had to attend these on the regular.  Lewandowski, in addition to being loaded on blow, was obviously done with the shindig before he even took the stage as the nice state justice lady droned on about, “Ronald Reagan …”.  Or the governor of somewhere else saying “Women need to be men of power”.

None of this is to diminish the importance of fundraising.  Of course politics requires money to spread platform and personality propaganda in our current campaign paradigm.  But to gather in a banquet room and flatter each other as means of self-aggrandizement whilst lying about their intentions is stifling as hell to a relative outsider. Especially when President Trump showed the better way just a few years ago.

We’ve seen the way to talk about what is actually going on in the nation.  Attack your opponents.  Flatter your allies.  Boast of yourself.  Sure do it all.  But remember:

It doesn’t matter how much money you raise, you have to give the people a reason to give a shit – money is simply a tool for doing so.  Even the choir needs a reason to care and this ain’t it.  What are you going to do for me.  Don’t tell me who’s corpse you’re still obsessing over, don’t tell me what your principles are.  Tell me what you’re going to do and I’ll infer the former myself.

Of course they forgot to mention “wrecker of that weaselly slim-ball Ben Shapiro’s shit” in Lewandowski’s bio.  I haven’t a clue what his specific policy positions are, but seeing the entirety of the commentariat (Breitbart and Infowars excepted) turn their guns on him when Michelle Fields flopped harder than a Spanish soccer player is enough to earn my respect.

Good luck in your Senate bid good sir.  I legitimately hope you win, not the least so I can see the smug look on your face when Full of Schiff has to greet you as a peer in the Capitol.
